Eastern Central Pacific: Monterey Bay in California, USA to southern Baja California and Guadalupe I. (off northern central Baja California) in Mexico.
 Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-17; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 13-14.
 Biology:  Occurs over rocky bottom in clear water, often near crevices and small caves, occasionally in kelp. Adults defend a home territory. Feeds mainly on attached invertebrates. Has been reared in captivity.
 Red List Status: Not in IUCN Red List  , (Ref. 36508)
